Stupid Meaningless Milestones

You know like arbitrary lines in the ground, or big round numbers, or some construct someone comes up with that folks latch on to? Usually completely meaningless in the grand scheme of things?

In the last few days, I crossed my first state line, passed the 100 mile mark, and have climbed the equivalent of one Mt. Everest.

Without Sherpas.

Of course if you push too hard to make one or more of these milestones, and end up in a motel for days popping pills and icing your leg, they may be meaningful - Just not in a good way.

    1. Hey Sheep! Sorry for the late response, but your comment ended up in a spam filter ... Yours was not the first recommendation for that place. Never made it tho. Have to try it on the flip side!

  2. You got this buddy! I do feel your pain tho ... mine hasn't stoped throbbing/aching since i got off trail .... xray is complete, MRI in the next few days i hope ... Do as much as ya can ... always can section complete if the knee's can roll the entire ride ... like you said, nothing to be ashamed of ... of course i had serious depression shortly after ... but realized i needed to get them repaired and try again and not think the mountains would forgive them ... they didn't and i learned a serious lesson ... i worked through self doubt, and just as i began to believe i could do it ... my knee gave up .. take it for what you can ... if your heart is in it, it'll just be a slow ride .. it's a marathon ... not a race.

    1. Bil, I am staying one mile from the NOC tonight...headed there in the morning. I really do hope you're feeling better. I hope to see you on the trail again soon. What did the doc say about your warrior gash on your hand?

    2. I'm spending a couple of days in Franklin icing my leg. Shrink got back on the trail today and is heading for a short stay at the NOC. You'll probably see her first. Hike on!
